The Sheridan County Conservation District is one of 34 Conservation Districts in Wyoming, organized as a local subdivision of State Government under the Wyoming Department of Agriculture.  The mandate of local Conservation Districts is to oversee a comprehensive program of natural resource conservation under the direction of a locally-elected volunteer Board of Supervisors, a number of volunteer Associate Supervisors, and a paid District Staff.  In the past, the focus has been on the agricultural community. However, the Conservation District recognizes the importance of including urban areas in conservation programs and strives to blend programs that benefit urban and rural residents and involve all natural resource users. ACCELERATED DEADLINE FOR USDA CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

The 2009 deadline date for participation in USDA Conservation programs, Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP), and Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) has been moved up to September 1, 2008.  Eligibility paperwork, including articles of incorporation and signing authorities for entities will also be required earlier in the application process compared to past years.  Landowners who are interested in the '09 program should being early by contacting the local SCCD/NRCS office by mid-summer to allow adequate time to develop good project proposals and take care of needed documentation.

 
 
The Sheridan County Conservation District has been involved with a variety of education and information (I & E) items to help assist the residents of Sheridan County in making informed natural resource decisions.  Some of these items were made possible through money from Clean Water Act  Section 319 Grants from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  These publications include:
